Another season of Ruby?

Do you watch Ruby on the Style Network (sister of E)?  I have watched this show for years.  I love Ruby.  She is outgoing, funny, quirky and has a lot of funny friends.  But more so it is interesting watching her story unfold.  Ruby was once over 700 pounds and she lost a lot of the weight without surgery.  However, the struggle to lose the rest has warranted this TV show.

At first I was rooting for Ruby and I thought it was going to be great for her to have a break through and start finding herself.  I as happy when she started going to OA meetings and started asking those around her if she had an eating disorder (binge or overeating).

It was amazing to see how much she wouldn’t even admit she was overeating.  She truly believed she just somehow gained a bunch of weight but was eating normally.  But worse is the fact that she started seeking therapy to find out why she can’t remember her ENTIRE childhood.  As a person who knows a lot about eating disorders and addiction I understand that trauma, particularly sexual trauma can trigger both memory loss and addiction later in life.

Since Ruby has blocked out her entire childhood it is very clear that something very bad happened to her.  But her mother isn’t able to help her remember.  And it seems that even with therapy she is unable to figure it out.

I am actually really disappointed that I saw the preview today for her new season.  I am disappointed that the producers and people who put her on this show aren’t able to get her the real help she needs.  It isn’t about the food, exercise, weight, etc.  It is about finding out what happened to her in childhood that has triggered the memory loss and subsequent eating disorder.

I adore Ruby, but it is really hard to continue to watch a show, when the solution seems to be quite evident and I actually worry that the producers are dragging this out for the ratings and ad revenue.

What do you think?  Is Ruby the one dragging her feet to find out what happened in her childhood (and hopefully start her recovery) or are the producers to blame?

Finally Free,
