I used to hate the word FAT – It was as vile to me as poison. It was what I have run from most of my entire life. I didn’t want to be it, I didn’t want to see it, I didn’t want to eat it. I would have probably rather been called the most disgraceful words on the planet rather then be called those three letters.

Would A Donut By Any Other Name Taste As Sweet?
by Melissa DeHart - Former Patient/Alumni Coordinator on Jul 27, 2011
I have spent a good portion of my life “Counting Calories”. I didn’t know when I developed Anorexia that it would come with a degree in Nutrition. In fact I think that I should have gotten some sort of Honorary diploma for that. When you become obsessed with what you put and don’t put in your mouth you take it seriously. I could look at anything from a tablespoon of Peanut Butter to a Bean Sprout and tell you how many…

by Melissa DeHart - Former Patient/Alumni Coordinator on Jul 13, 2011
This past week, I have been entertaining a lot of boys. Well by boys, I mean my best friend/roommate’s brother and his best friend who just came back from serving in Afghanistan. Now I have no problem with boys, in fact I happen to like them very much. That being said it has been an eye-opening experience in all that is spitting, belching, and toilet seats being left up! I also have been in awe of the way they cook, chew…and EAT!

Sticks And Stones Could Give You Bones

I spent the majority of my life being judged. It started in kindergarten, when another little girl I was playing with on the playground told me that my dress didn’t twirl as much as hers did. She told me because of that, I couldn’t play with her and her friends anymore. I stared down at my recently purchased “baby blue striped frock” and, what was the most “superior dress” in the world to me that morning…

by Melissa DeHart - Former Patient/Alumni Coordinator on Jun 24, 2011
I never thought that the day would come when I wouldn’t be the ‘skinniest girl in the world’ anymore. The thing is, I had made it my most ‘Grand Life Achievement’. I had ‘Mastered’ the ‘Secret Sauce’ so to speak and had risen the bar ‘so high,’ or should I say ‘so low’ in my case that it baffled even the wisest of experts in the Science of Starvation.

Women are She wolves and don’t let anybody ever tell you differently. We are Territorial, we are protective, and we are without a doubt probably more competitive than any player on the NFL, NBA or UFC. Perhaps it originated with our ancestors way back when, but throughout history women have had to go that extra mile to prove…
You Can Call Me Eleanor, Miss Rigby If You Please
by Melissa DeHart - Former Patient/Alumni Coordinator on Jun 07, 2011
I remember as a little girl, I grew up listening to the music of the Beatles. My mother and father were avid fans and my sister’s and I became quite used to the sounds of Jon, Paul, Ringo, and George being blasted through the speakers of our living room. I think I loved all the music because it made me happy, but there was one song, one song that always made me sad…Eleanor Rigby. Eleanor Rigby always made me very introspective even as a small child. They lyrics chilled my bones…
‘Til Death Or Eating Disorder Do Us Part

To find someone you love is quite lucky. To find somebody you want to walk down the aisle with and spend the rest of your life with is even better. Marriage has its challenges, ask any of my married friends. The Statistics say that fifty percent of marriages now end in divorce. The reasons are pretty much across the board with the obvious ones being infidelity, finances, and boredom. However there is a hidden reason that marriages can also crumble…
