The Real Housewives

I must admit as an educated and fairly cultured young women I have to admit I have an addiction.  I don’t think it is the kind to be cured in rehab.  If they put us in rehab I think the problem would get worse.  My problem is reality tv.  I can’t get enough.  And when I can, I can’t stop watching!

Most recently I am obsessed with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on Bravo.  I feel as this is the show the producers originally intended to create when they started this franchise in Orange County.  They didn’t know we would go through an economic meltdown, which melted the riches and lives of many of the “housewives” on their upcoming shows.

In any case who doesn’t love this show?  A bunch of truly rich and amazing beautiful women running around (well flying) on private jets and bickering over what someone thought someone said.  Oh and I love the complaints from one Mrs. Kelsey Grammar (soon to be ex…).  She is so upset because the trip to Hawaii requires a lot of work!  Packing (for her and her two children and their FOUR nannies) and then of course calling the House Manager at the property in Hawaii to be sure everything is working…

But my point to writing this is really more based on their physical appearance and the pressure/example/impression it puts out there.  Now, I live in LA, fairly close to Beverly Hills.  And yes I did meet Jiggy the dog a few weeks ago with his lovely owners at their restaurant Via Blanca.  And maybe I did hold him in a photo…  Or maybe not.  In any case I know the difference between rich women like this in BH and the rest of the world.  But do those watching the show know?

If I didn’t know about their plastic surgery, grueling workouts and fad diets then would I think I should look like them?  Surely I cannot compete with most of them (all of them?) and I am still young!  They are a lot older with kids, ex-husbands, current husbands, lovers and fat bank accounts.

So while I am addicted I know it is all for my own entertainment.  And while I know they are real women who live kind of nearby I know I don’t have to keep up with them.   Interesting thought…

Finally Free,
